Tracking Trials
Tracking is a sport in which you and your dog follow a scent along a previously laid track to find someone waiting in the bush. The tracks are marked out according to the Tracking Rules and walked by a tracklayer on the day of the trial. The only equipment needed is a correctly fitted tracking harness and a lead at least 10 m long. The tracklayer must have some articles with their scent on to leave on the track, most people use socks for this.
From 1/1/2009 extra titles are available for those dogs that have achieved their Tracking Champion Title. This is Track & Search
The club conducts two of the four Tracking Trials held each year.
Training for tracking can be started with your pup from the time your new pup arrives. Games can be played like hide and seek which can help start your dog thinking about problem solving with it's nose.
Keeping it fun is of paramount importance. You will also need to find extra special treats that your dog will be working for as a reward.
