Microchip your Dog for $20 - 15th May 2011
Launceston City Council - Media release
Issued: 6 May 2011
Another opportunity to comply with State microchipping Legislation
Due to the demand at the Launceston City Council's Microchipping Day on 1 May 2011,
the Council has organised Homesafe ID to carry out microchipping at the RSPCA's
Million Paws Walk on Sunday 15 May.
Dogs and cats can again be microchipped for the discounted price of $20 (CASH ONLY).
Pets can be brought to the old Bicycle Track area next to Aurora Stadium between
9.00am and 3.00pm to be microchipped. No bookings are required. All dogs must be kept
on a lead and cats must be in travel crates.
Launceston City Council General Manager Robert Dobrzynski said "The Council's
Microchipping day was a tremendous success with almost 2,000 animals chipped.
Following that event, the Council received numerous calls requesting another
microchipping day for those who missed out.
"The RSPCA's Million Paws Walk is the perfect event to include microchipping as many
pet owners will already be planning to participate.
"Amendments to the State Government's Dog Control Act 2000 mean that as of 1 July
2011 all dogs older than six months must be microchipped. These Microchipping Days
are helping owners comply with this legislation.
"Microchipping also provides peace of mind for pet owners as their animals can be
identified Australia wide and returned quickly and easily."
