2008 Annual General Meeting 

held on Sunday 28 September

Thank you to everyone for attending.

Enormous thanks go to Alan Payne, the retired President, for his incredible dedication as President of the Club for last 19 years. Over that time he has given exceptional service to the canine world, having received an Outstanding Service Award from the Tasmanian Canine Association, trained countless people coming through the beginner classes and beyond, managed trials, volunteered in other roles within the TCA and it’s affiliates. It is a reflection of Alan’s dedication Tas Dog that he has even been known to turn up to training with a plaster on his broken ankle!

He continues to share his wisdom and experience of the dog world by serving on Committee, as trainer and as Trial Secretary

In summary the club has had a successful year with a healthy increase in the number of people signing up to train their dogs. It is an encouraging sign that members of our community see training their dogs as a vital component to having dogs who are not only good companions for their family, but are also well mannered members of the community in which they live.

The club’s relocation within Churchill Park in 2007 has assisted us to deal with the increasing attendance and numbers of classes held at any given time. In hindsight, it is difficult to envisage holding three Beginner classes and Grades 3 & 4 concurrently on the old astroturf site. We are very grateful for the help and support the Launceston City Council Parks & Recreation Department provide in assisting with site development. Our Patron, Deputy Mayor Rosemary Armitage is a frequent visitor on Sundays.
Financially the club continued solid growth over the last financial year ensuring self-sustainability. While the club is not out to generate profit, it is vital that the club raises funds to cover its costs and to maintain and improve facilities for its members to enhance their training experience.

A Trainers course commenced during 2008. Thanks to all those participating, Leon Jones and Pat Hallam for their presentations and special thanks to Chris Pontin, Lyn Deitch Sue Campbell and Sue Furlonge and others who have assisted with running classes in addition to the regular trainers.

A new format Agility & Jumping Beginners course also ran earlier in the year thanks to the Agility & Jumping sub-committee Martin Waddingham, Kendal and Alan Payne, Ashley Olsen, Gayle Rickard, Amanda Peck & Yvonne Tomkinson for their efforts and for volunteering their time.
